1930’s French violin by Laberte-Humbert Frères

A French violin that I sourced in France, made by the ‘Laberte-Humbert Frères’ Company in Mirecourt.

It was modelled after a Nicolas Lupot violin and labelled as such, as was the practice at the time.

The spirit varnish is particularly nicely antiqued to the back and front, with inking of the corners and scroll chamfering, and an elegantly shaped neck.

The response is bright and characterful for a confident player, with plenty of dark resonant notes.

It still carries it’s original olivewood pegs, and is set up with Thomastik Dominant strings, a Westminster E string, Wittner tailpiece and a rosewood chinrest.
